After the long winters, Montreal wakens to a series of festivals and the Canadian Grand Prix, the night life starts, and ends in the early hours of the morning, with music, wine, and excellent food in its wide choice of restaurants. The cosmopolitan tradition of Montreal welcomes visitors from around the world.
The F1 tradition, and an important native son, Gilles Villeneuve, after whom the track was named are very important to the city. The track is complex, with slow and fast corners, making very strong demands on the engines and other systems of the F1 cars, and all this on a man-made island made in 1967 in the middle of the St Lawrence River on the occasion of Expo '67.
